The 1953 Graduating Class of Elizabeth City High School celebrated their 50th High School

Class Reunion in May. On Friday night a get-to-gether was held at Groupers (formally Mulligans). A

banquet was held at Pine Lakes Country Club Saturday night. Fifty years ago, this class had their

“Senior Outing” at the County Club. Now fifty years later - the same group was having a “SENIOR”

outing. The only difference was that some of us had changed; and we didn’t stay out quite as late!!!!!

Reid Carlton, Class President welcomed the group. The school song, YELLOW JACKETS

was sung, accompanied by a tape made by the present North Eastern High School Band. The Rev.

Roland Cooper, fellow classmate and Pastor of the Riddle Pentecostal Holiness Church in Riddle gave

the invocation. After supper, Virgil Williams presented prizes to the couple with the most grand-

children and great grandchildren; the youngest child; the longest married and the one who had

traveled the furthest. Classmates came from as far away as California and Texas. Former teachers

attending were Erma Turner, Scott Callaway, Jean Williams, Audrey McMullan and Coach Bob

Brooks.

Sunday morning, a group of classmates attended Riddle Pentecostal Church. The Church was

honoring Roland for 41 years of service and hosted a delicious lunch for Roland and his classmates.

The planning committee for the event was Billy Gay (McDowell) Singletary. Chairman; Virgil

It was a wonderful week-end - just didn’t last long enough to talk to everyone and catch up

with the years. Our biographies are on a web-site that had been set up earlier.
