E.C.H.S. Band - 1958

It is with a great deal of sadness that I write this email tonight.  I spoke over the phone to a close neighbor, and former band student,  of the Callaway’s this evening, and a major part of our ECHS history and past is no longer with us tonight.  Scott Callaway, our ECHS Band Director for many years, died last night, in his sleep at home, and on his 93rd birthday, which was today.

I for one, can never hear the 1812 Overture without thinking of Mr. Callaway.  The Boston Pops plays it here on the Esplanade every July 4th, and it takes me back home to some very fond memories, every time it is played.

Mr. Callaway had not been doing well in the past few weeks.  In fact, he was in the hospital a week ago.  However, Mrs. Callaway wanted him home, so she could take care of him, and she did.  Also, any cards may be sent to

His body is at the Twiford Funeral Home.  You may also leave condolences on the Twiford Funeral home site, after tomorrow morning.    http://www.twifordfh.com/

The funeral will be held Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, @ 2:00 PM.  A wonderful man, that not only directed us with a bounty and gift of music but also helped guide many of us, in better directions.  God Bless Mr. Callaway.  He will long be fondly remembered in many of our hearts, forever.
